Jersey Aircraft Registry Registers First Aircraft

19-11-2015

On the 5th November 2015, the States of Jersey announced that they had registered their first aircraft on the newly launched Jersey Aircraft Registry.

The Jersey Aircraft Registry, which has a focus on new or nearly new high-value private and corporate aircraft will offer:

  • Registration of private and corporate aircraft
  • Uniquely, registration of commercial aircraft engine mortgages
  • An online registration system, available 24-hours a day (to be launched in Q3, 2016)
  • A safe and comprehensive regulatory framework
  • Neutral nationality registration prefix 'ZJ-' followed by three characters of choice
  • A competitive Scheme of Charges

The launch of the Jersey aircraft registry follows on from the success of the Isle of Man aircraft registry which was launched over 6 years ago and has registered nearly 600 aircraft since its inception.

Garfield-Bennett Trust Company (part of the Abaris Fiduciary group of companies) has a presence in both jurisdictions and has a long and successful track record of registering and importing private and corporate jets so they enjoy free circulation throughout the EU.

James Cunningham-Davis of Garfield-Bennett Trust Company said “I welcome the first registration on the Jersey aircraft registry. We have been in the private and corporate jet business for many years, via our group office in the Isle of Man. Our knowledge and experience in the industry will enable us to maximise the benefits of this new registry to the benefit of our clients”

The new aircraft registry is a welcome addition to the wide array of Jersey’s benefits:

  • An autonomous Crown Dependency that enjoys a secure, special relationship with the UK, but is not part of the UK or the EU
  • A well-established, diverse and highly respected financial services centre
  • Geographically well-placed to serve clients based in the UK, Europe, Africa, the Gulf States and the Far East
  • A stable political system and economy, with a government that supports international business
  • A robust and independent judicial system, based on modern commercial law principles
  • A simple and neutral fiscal system that provides an ideal platform to support financial services
  • A proportionate, risk-based regulatory environment that is aligned to international standards
